Original Notes By Candy: Mechanics Of Solitude is another exceptional musical collection composed by Maestro and ambient guitarist Cousin Silas. An eclectic journey through solitude. And memories, a common focus of his album themes.
The album is replete with guitar. And guitar overlays. And splendid keys and synths. In a diverse mix of dronescapes, meditative melodies, voiceless ambient ballads, ethereal musings.
Silas is a master at creating music that "sounds" like the message it carries. As with September Sunrise. Rhythm Of The Clouds. Still Of The Night (an amazing ambient guitar track). Before Dawn. You can hear the windswept leaves, the air moving clouds, feel the dark and quiet night, the aura of anticipation. Or expectation. Or hesitation. You can sense the night disappearing into the sunrise, hear slumbering people waking just before dawn.
I have always been partial to the soft side of Silas music. Although I enjoy all of it. Mechanics Of Solitude stands out as one of his best. It is a flawless mastery of tools and technique, knowing the message of the music and which sounds best bring it to the listener, and an innate understanding of what "beautiful" sounds like.

This record spans some of Roach's signature styles, like the percolating synths in "Currents of Compassion", the dreamy abstraction of "Prometheus Passage", the tribal rhythms of "The Gone Place", and the elegiac majesty of "What Remains".
